Hi all just wondering does anyone know what the differences in the starlet EP91 non-turbos are?

There is:

  • Starlet CD
  • Starlet GLS
  • Starlet I
  • Starlet S
  • Starlet SOL
  • Starlet SOLIDA
  • Starlet SR

Just wondering because i want a starlet non-turbo then swap the engine to a 4E-FTE lump,

But i wanna know what the differences are?

Thanks Luke

dont know much about the ep91's but pretty sure the SR's are the top spec non turbo's and are slightly faster than the rest of the range ?? they also hold their value much better than the rest of the range available, or so iv seen.

The SRs are no faster on paper and in a straight line but take it down a winding B road........

As regards the conversion, really depends what you want but you will end up uprating the suspension, brakes, etc so it will make little difference. The SR has a nice rear spoiler, bigger alloys, rev counter and a back box.

Consider insurance:

A= Modified cars get a premium increase.

B= Standard cars don't - ie standard GT turbo

If premium of A > premium of B = buy B

ie if the insurance of a turbocharged SR is greater than a standard GT turbo, its more sensible to buy the turbo.

If the premium of a Japanese Import is greater than that of a UK car, but the cost of a modified UK car is still less, then consider turbocharging a UK spec car.
