My ST185 is 17years old now being a 91 plate, It really doesnt feel as fast as it should, I think its more like 175bhp rather that the 200bhp when it rolled out the factory 17years ago. What can be done to restore these lost horses???

Since no one is ever on this forum and hardly ever replys to posts, I think the only thing that could be done would be to rebuild the engine??, i guess as the engine's get older things stretch/shrink etc. etc. which will lose you power. Shall I give it a good service including fuel filter, plugs, leads, distributor cap, rotor arm, oil and oil filter which may spruce a bit of life back into it??

First of all get it on a rolling road, find out what bhp you are actually pushing as the good old bum test isn't the must accurate.

If you then find that it is well under what it should be you can then start looking at ways to improve it and you will have a power to reference to, you can then periodically check as you do things to see where you are, you might spend £100 a time for the rolling road but it could save hundreds and actually gives you some real data.

Good luck

Pretty much as above, but remember also. The 185 has the same all up weight of an overloaded Boeing 747 on steroids. So consequently it's going to have a lower power to weight ratio than say a Clio 172 for example, and probably be slower on the uptake. Where it does have an advantage is in the handling. 4WD cars can get the power down earlier than a narky FWD super light paperweight and keep that power down when said paperweight is drifting off into the scenery.

The Celica engines are virtually bombproof unless really neglected, so I suspect your power figures are probably up there with other standard cars. A good service using quality parts will keep it so. All you have to do then is MODIFY.
