hi guys.

i recently acquired a carina e 2.0 GLi and i was planning to upgrade it somewhat. i don't have deep pockets but i was thinking of changing tyres (currently running on 14s) and air filter to improve looks somewhat and a bit of performance. i don't know if i can run 17-inch wheels on it as i read others have problems with it (insurance, cops, etc.) though i would like to. also, would i be able to change my filters into cone type ones? i currently have factory panel type ones.

any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

Parhaps you would have more luck posting in one of the other forums, anyway

-ring your insurance company and ask them will they insure you with 17s, if they do you will have no problem with cops, wouldn't have thought cops would give a Sh** anyway. If you do get 17s ensure your overall diameter with tyre is about the same as with the 14s, this will keep your speedo reading correctly and maintain your ratios.

-u could get a k&n or pipercross panel filter which may give a slight bhp increase and make engine sound better. Or you could get a cone air filter, but if these don't get fresh cold air (You will have to remove your airbox) you could lose power

-get some premium spark plugs

-ensure it is serviced correctly to get max bhp out of it

Hi Miggy,

If you use 17 rims then you have to go very low profile. I'm sure many do have that size on their rinas.

Lot of people do have cone airfilters on their rinas too. Your problem is that you ask here at TOC where most people who own a Carina use it as a family car and are not that keen on doing any modifications on their cars, but they do know very much about Toyota cars here. If I get a normal everyday problem I should post it here and if it is about modifications I should other forums, see below.

You should have asked this question at carina-e.com or toyotanutz.com where the users do mods to their cars.
