Excuse my ignorance but my understanding is that dump valves are only fitted to cars with turbos fitted, as the dump valve keeps the turbo spinning to cut down on lag. Not sure that it could be fitted to a compressor let alone improve performance. Feel free to correct me guys

that was also my thinking as a turbo goes up on and off boost as you accerlate i.e. making the woosshh noise.

A supercharger is constantly on "boost" so no pressure is needed to be realeased?

(is my understanding)

So chavv-ee unless your driving a Supra

You could always get a fake remote control one where you press a button :crybaby:

The purpose of a dump valve (or blow-off valve, which does the same thing but doesn't go tsch) is to get rid of boost when the throttle is closed. You've got the accelerator floored, exhaust gasses are flowing and turbo is boosting, then you come off the loud pedal. The turbo is still providing boost but it has nowhere to go as the throttle is closed, and so it can't get into the engine. This means that the air pressure after the turbo is higher than the pressure before the turbo (normal atmosphere), there will also be a lot less driving the turbine as the exhaust gas flow will have dropped right down, so the air will try and flow backwards through the turbo. This will <I thought I could get past the swearing filter - what a sad muppet I am eh?> it reet up!

Superchargers typically re-route air back into the intake. It's a lot more difficult to get a supercharger to run backwards as it's running off the engine directly, so will always have some turning force. However the boosted air will still have nowhere to go if the throttle is closed which is why it's normally routed back to the intake. I guess it's possible to fit a dump valve to get rid of the air, but I've never heard of it being done with a supercharger. And you might also find some lag when you get back on the throttle as it will have to build the boost back up again.

we have a winner! :toast:

I know it's not a corolla, but it has the same engine, anyone seen the voodoogts video on the net. He has a blitz supercharger on his celica 190 and mod lists says he has a blow off valve.

that celica sounds awesome, yeah that sounds like its dumping I have heard of them being fitted before onto supercharged cars, however not sure if it has a purpose other than to sound sweet
