Headunit - 6th Gen - Gt

HI all,

We've just bought a 94-99 6th Gen Celica GT - ( the early 94-95 - 174 BHP one ) - lovely car, awesome drive, very impressed :) - however, it's still got the original Toyota head unit in - so, I'm just wondering whether it's got standard "modern wiring" in it to connect a newish 2005-06 headunit to it - or whether we'll have to buy an adapter for it? - if so, which exact adapter?

TIA.

Congrats on your purchase. (You have the best one  )

You will need an ISO adapter for Toyota's. They are about £11 in Halfords but I got one on eBay for £3 or 4 new. Just search Toyota ISO and it comes up with loads. The listings should tell you which models they cover.

Thanks mate, that's great - just one other thing - the instructions below were from a Nov 2002 thread in this forum - are they basically ok for the head-unit change? I'm thinking of just swapping the head-unit for a newer one to start with, then thinking about new Speakers later.

Do the following:

Remove the gear knob..

Remove the gear surround, just clips on.

just under the lighter section there are 2 screws, remove them

Rest of the surround is one piece, carefully remove it, it is also clip on jobby. dont use any sharp objects

Stereo is mounted on a bracket with 4 screws. may be 5 sometimes, remove the bracket

and stereo can be taken on the bracket.
