Brake Assist Failure On 2007 Avensis

Hi folks,

My feeling is that when I press the brake petal, the brake assist mechanism takes ages to respond (i.e., it takes 0,3-0,5 sec to make the petal hard). Is this normal? When the car was new, it responded instantly. Furthermore, when I press the brake petal, I hear a noise like something is deflating. Is this normal?

My 54 plate and my dads 06 new shape plate make a noise like you describe. Has for time to kick in i'd say depending on how hard and quick you press the pedel depends how quick it kick in. I has some silly prat on a motor bike come out of a side junction cut the island at the bottom has i was joining the island. The car droped for 20ish to 0 in a fraction of a second. The brake assit kicked in right away but i did stand on the pedel.
