I have read all pages on this forum and i am getting mixed information.

I am stuck in what to do with regards to the an air filter/induction kit.

some post say just a k&n filter change and removing the bottom cover will do and that the induction kit is a waste of time and others state the opposite so can someone shed some light on what is really better?

All depends on what you want really.

If you're not too worried about big gains go for the air filter, if you're wanting a little bit more power and a loud growl go for the induction kit.

I've been running the K&N induction kit for about 4 months now.

Can't fault it. The VVTLi used to scream at 6200rpm now it roars.

Love it!!!!

ive just the same mate!

read from page 22!!

i think in general the cheaper option will be to remove snorkle or the bottom cover (and selotape the filter) or the more expensive option at a sexy price of £180 you get a typhoon. in general i think that the typhoon gets more votes and praise compared to the other way.

i always thought that the k&n caused problems with the ecu etc....

but im quite excited to see what the typhoon can do...but at that price......HMmmmm.

i have a typhoon fitted on mine and am very pleased with it .idealy you could do with a heat sheild so it doesn,t draw any warm air from engine but haven,t got round to sorting that yet but still recommend the typhoon and it looks the part to

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi all, Ive had a Blitz Sonic Power induction kit on my '05 CTS.

Cant fault it one bit  , comes with its own adjustable heatshield (you can adjust the distance of the heatshield from the filter element to tone down the noise but restrict airflow, or - like me - just set it full open to allow maximum airflow and maximum noise, hey if we wanted quiet cars we wouldnt have bought a CTS in the first place would we?).

Ok back to the point, its got a metal heat shield, cotton gauze cone filter, cast aluminium base for connecting your MAF sensor into and even comes with the wee plastic bungs to block off the necesary points in your piping.

Filter sounds :yahoo: incredible :yahoo: really. compared to the typhoon its much much louder, a real bark at any RPM and a very rewarding ROAR, almost a bang as it kicks into high lift mode.

You can definately feel the sharper response, and car is most definately bretahing easier at high rpm, that old airbox was a complete strangler. Never regretted it once. Except when paying for it.... much more expensive than typhoon, but then it is a Blitz part. quality is top notch.

Never met anyone who has one though!

Definately recommended though, had no problems with ECU or anything else.

Hi all, Ive had a Blitz Sonic Power induction kit on my '05 CTS.

Is this the badger?

http://www.blitz-uk.co.uk/ProductItem-245.aspx

Do you have any pics of it fitted to your car? Would be good to see as it looks the nuts on the blitz site.

I've wanted to fit an induction kit for ages, but worried about firstly fitting one and whether it affected warranty issues with Mr T (the latter no longer applies as the car is out of warranty). How was it for fitting, could a complete mechanical numpty like me do it, or is it quite tricky?

Cheers

Hi vvtli-boy,

Thats the very same. Looks sweet doesnt it

It looks well in the car too but after about a month you get tired of polishing the dust off it to get it that shiney and just let it do its thing.

I was lucky with the warranty issue, I had phoned them given them the model of the kit and asked if it was goig to affect my warranty before i bought it. THey said no it was fine, it was only and air filter. So took it to local tuners who made a pigs ear of fitting it so that some of the vacuum hoses werent attached correctly and the ECU warning light stayed on all the time. (It was only 6 months old at the time so i didnt want to try and fit it myself). SO took it to Toyota dealer where i got it and told them the story and asked if they could take a look at it. They started on the old "thats going to invalidate your warranty" song but then i told the guy that not 2 weeks ago he had told me himself that it wouldnt affect the warranty. After a bit of humming anf ha-ing they agreed to say nothing. Took them about 15 minutes to realise that the vacuum pipes were on wrong and fixed it.

Been perfect ever since, no issues, no problems nothing.

So i kind of got off lucky there. I really will have to take some photos of the beastie and pop them on here. Ive never met anyone else who has this kit but it sounds absolutely wicked. :yahoo:

Im not a great mech myself, but im sure you could have a go, i was just worried about doing some unspeakable damage to my brand new CTS so i left it to someone else to do!

Hows it going!

The Blitz Sonic fits perfectly, i think they have different sizes of cone and heatshield for different models but its pretty big, is just fits into the space the old airbox leaves, snugly too, in fact just perfect.

They have fitted the biggest filter and shield in that would fit in a stock car - which is exactly what you want. Its got pictures of the kit fitted in different cars (including the Supra) on the product box when you get it.

Its a sweet kit, but it is definately very noisy, just pointing that out to Compressor Mad in advance  but well worth it. It turns heads lets put it that way

The only problem i have noticed is that it rubs a tiny bit on one of the metal Battery mounts, i only spotted it at the weekend, but that my own fault for angling it that way, ill just move the mounting bracket a tiny bit and all will be well!

Let me know if you go for it, as i said ive never met anyone else with one on their T-Sport corolla!
