Instrument Panel (mileometer + Trip Meter)

I have got a 96 Toyota Celica 2.0GT and I have a problem. My Instrument dials work perfectly (Lights, Fuel Guage, Temp Guage, Speedo, Rev Counter etc) BUT my Tripmeter and my milometer (Odometer depending on who you talk to) has STOPPED going round. Ive checked all the fuses under the steering column and under the bonnet and they are all fine. Does anyone know what may be the problem? There doesn't seem to be any loose connections behind the Instrument Panel and all the wires look healthy (No Burns etc). My last resort is to buy a second hand set of clocks but I don't wnat to start messing with mileage cuz its only done 67,000 which is great for its age.

I would be eternally greatful for any help or advice given.

Cheers

your problems will most likely be a digital sender unit fitted to the gearbox IIRC not emmiting the correct signals to the speedo - i m almost certain the 96 model didnt have a speedo cable. its either a bad / loose connection at the rear of the clocks or the sensor is unplugged or loose connections , or possible have mud/tar / dirt etc on its connections.

How would I get to the digital sender unit and the gearbox IIRC? Where are the sensors for the Mileometer on the car and how do I get to them?

Cheers

I wouldn't know how to get to the gearbox or what it looks like. I'm a bit of a spaz when it comes to car things. I have the Chiltern Manual but its not that useful as its for US models and the manuals on Celica Tech are half missing and also for US models.

How would I go about getting to this part because I dont know any other way to sort this problem out besides buying new clocks and if its not the clocks then its the sensor so would have to get it sorted anyhoo.

Apologies for being a pain in the *****.

Look into the engine bay on the passenger side , you will see the gearbox , or better still get access from underneath . if your as much a spaz as you say you are though , id personnally leave it be and have a garage take a look or someone with car knowledge .toyota parts are not cheap , dont want you breaking things thats really expensive to replace.
