Advice Avensis Overdrive Or What

Dear Wise Ones, I recently purchased a 53 Avensis Estate Automatic. I love the car but I wonder if you could answer a few questions for me please. Does the 2.0 litre 4 speed auto have an over drive because in 4 gear around 80 miles an hour going uphill, if i press the throttle, sometime it doesn't do a full kick-down it just increases revs about 500 or half of 1000 revs and pulls away. As if I have 4 gears and and overdrive. Next on a recent trip to Italy. I noticed on some roads , generally good ones they was a humming noise from the rear and the drivers side rear tyre has warn unevenly on the inside edge. the noise increases with speed. the tires are Dunlop SR Sport 3000 size 215/45 R17. The tires where new when i purchased the car and the steering wheel does not wobble left and right much at speed over 80 MPH but I feel the slight but definite vibration and that low humming noise. I had the wheels balanced, but the weights on the back wheel came off through I would presume some sort of vibration, but in the cabin all I feel is a very slight vibration. It sounds like a bearing gone as other people on the forum have suggested, but on inspection at local Toyota he took of the wheel, checked what he did with all nuts and joint etc and said bearing OK but if I bring it in he will change it anyway but at what cost, I do not know. What do you suggest as I love the car and its engine and auto-box really suit me. But I am concerned about transporting my family in it...Please advise......Kind Regards James :wacko:

It could cause the uneven tyre wear and most places will check the tracking free of charge ( they charge if its needs adjusting)so its worth having it done to rule it out

It would appear that the car sat still for a period of time before I got it, Subsequently the both tyres at the back had a flat spot. I initially had the tracking laser checked and all OK. The technition then spun the rear wheel after tracking and noticed the fault straight away. He also recommended going for Pirreli rather than dunlop. With two new tires fitted at rear the problem noise and all has gone and I am well please the quiet drive has retuned. Thanks All James
