Corolla Shared Wiring?

Does anyone know if the Corolla has "shared" wiring? Bby this I mean are certain wires in the loom used by more than 1 component? I think this is sometimes referred to as CAN-Bus Signal (Car Area Network?) Apparently this is another cost saving move by some Manufacturers...do Toyota do this?? Reason is I want to attach a towbar cable to the rear and was going to just attach each wire to the equivalent one in the rear light socket...now I am told this could give me major problems.....if this shared wiring is used because it may put unexpected loads on the circuit? Has anyone done this.....I can buy a standard socket and bare wires from Halfords for £12-99 or a Corolla Specific set from Towequipe at nearer £80......obviously I want to buy the Halfords one if I can...answers please on a postacrd!!!

if its a modern car, chances are its running some form of CAN-BUS network, so no, you cant really DIY the towbar wiring. i'd get prices from Toyota for a fitment (then its garunteed) or some other electronic installation specialists for the wiring side. Have fun!

I did as you suggested, and got a professional to fit the lead. He confirmed the Corolla does not have CAN-BUS Wiring so it can be done DIY with a little care....but hey I am happy...it cost me £35 including the lead...so for peace of mind it was a small price to pay.

Incidentally, the Auris does have CAN-BUS, apparently the wring resembles telephone wires.....so I would definately stay clear of that one if anyone is thinking about doing it themselves
