New To Toyota

hi, bit new to this, and not sure how it works but i have a few q's... i have a toyota carina 1.6 GS and i have a few probs... the toyota theft deterrent system doesn't work, the key fobs light up but there is absolutely no response from the car, is there a fuse or something i can check, i've already tried turning the thing under the bonnet on and off, but nothing works, also the central locking only works with the button on the drivers side door panel, but the key doesn't activate the rest of the door locks, any ideas?

final thing for now, i had a little accident last week and bent something on the passenger side wheel, the wheel now lies at an angle, the tire place i went to said i'd bent something so adjusting the tracking wouldn't fix it, but they couldn't tell me what i could've bent, again any ideas?

It is likely that you have bent the lower wishbone assembly. Copy parts are widely available from all motor factors. It may be wise to replace both on a car of this age. This is the part which you'll probably need:

However - just replacing this may not solve your problem entirely. The impact may have distorted the hub assembly. These parts are available from brakers yards who specialise in breaking Japanese Vehilcles. There's one in Stockton-on-Tees. 'JAP-PARTS' or alternatively go on-line using:

Can't comment on the lock problem. I'd start by removing the door card. A linkage rod may have come adrift. BTW there is no audible sound on the Toyota Alarm when it arms. Neither do the headlights flash etc. The only sign is the flashing LED near the handbrake.

Thanks, i've been pricing the wishbones and can get new or second hand cheap enough, will get the hub checked too...

i removed the door card today and all the rods are connected and move correctly, but for some strange reason the key just won't operate the central locking, i think i'll just let it be for now, thanks again for the advice
