I Can Hear My Clutch...

Yesteday went out for a bit.

Pulled up and noticed when I push down on the clutch I can hear it from outside...Should I be worried?

It sounds like it needs oil...but it sounds dry....not a clunking noise but a..."I need to be juiced up" kinda noise....

What are the signs of the clutch on its way out?

o and it does not smell or anything...

Cheers guys

Ive got exactly the same problem. I only bought mine on Monday. Its a 52 T Sport, done 37000 miles. I can hear the clutch when i change gear. Exactly what your describing yours like. Also when i take my foot off the accelerator at about 3-4000 revs i can hear the engine breaking quite loudly. Its like a dry scraping sort of sound. Any advice? ive looked on the other posts and a lot of people say its a 'characteristic' but one guy said he needed a whole new clutch or dearbox, i cant remember which :crybaby:

i am too on 37k...Only bought the car last month.

I know...

I have read like 80% all of these posts ... and many suggestions, the ones that tickle me belly are the ones where some people paid 750-1000 for gearbox bearings and clutches.

Im planning to sign up with AA breakdown cover. AA also do repair cover which is a flat rate of £65 a year and it covers just about everything....gearbox, engine, clutch... to a maximum claim of £500 however.

It will make me feel much better when driving cos' I notice many sounds that dont sound right but it drives lovely...

Does it squeek?

Mine squeeks when you press the pedal, can only hear it if the engine's not running, otherwise the engine drowns it out.

I've worked out where it's coming from under the bonnet (it's the bit that actuates the clutch, not the actual clutch) and attacked it with spray grease / WD40 but it's not stopped! It's covered in rubber boots so probably something inside that's squeeking.

I have the exact same problem on my diesel. I've had the engine cover off and Battery out to get at it but it still squeaks after a good coating of WD40. It sounds like it's come from 'deeper' than i can spray?

Yeah I reckon it's inside the rubber boots. Could probably cure it by taking them off but not worth it to be honest! Re-fitting of new ones would be a pain, and it would almost certainly come back pretty soon.

I hope this wont be a problem then? Mine squeecks when the car is on too...

Yep, same here... Although it goes after the car's warmed up... I am sure its a lubrication issue.

I really wouldn't worry about it guys. My car has only been back from servicing at Toyota. I have had the car 7 months and the clutch has squeaked when pushing down on the pedal when the engine is cold since i have had the car. So i asked mr T to check it out and they said that there is no problem what so ever :) i thought to myself they where going to say that what ever, so i took it to my local Mr Clutch garage aswell. Didn't mention that i'd been to Toyota and just asked them to check the clutch. They said that the clutch was absolutly fine aswell. So nothing to worry about :)

Hope this helps

MarK

P.S: if anyone does find that there really is a problem please post, and i will gladly strangle the mechanics at both Toyota and Mr Clutch lol :)

It's normally the Clutch release arm pivot which creaks - ball and socket pivot which drys out over time and creaks

every time you operate the clutch. The only cure for this is a gearbox out job, remove the release arm and clean and copper-slip it.

Do not be tempted to squirt WD40 or similar down the back of the release arm to lube it - it will go over the Clutch and cause it to slip/judder etc etc.

The gearbox bearings are noisy on the CTS - especially on over-run,fitting new bearings will cure the noise for a while but it will be back.
