the cable to the engine is really slack, is there a way I can tighten it up without special tools? has anyone done it or should i leave alone?

if its anything like the AE111 (bearing in mind mine is the 1.6) then the throttle cable is inside a rubber tube which is terminated onto a kind of mounting arm attached to the cylinder head, i tightened mine up by moving the nuts so that the rubber outer moved further away from the throttle body.
