Drop Links

Hello all

I've got a 2.0 vvti '02 plate, and after the last MOT (just a month ago) I noticed a severe knocking from the rear suspension. Yesterday it went in for a service and I was informed that one of the drop-links needs replacing (at a cost of £150). I know it's part of the suspension, but I'm a cynical bugger - 30 years of going to dealerships makes you like that - how can I check that the link needs replacing or just tightening up, and what the flip is a drop link anyway?

Also, due to a couple of heavy bills coming soon I'll not be able to get it replaced for a month or so, is something likely to fall of in the meantime - like wheels or the entire rear suspension.... :o

Many thanks in advance, John
