Just Taken Out Extended Warranty (small Print)

I've just taken out the Toyota extended 2 year unlimited mileage warranty (has 14 day cool off period)

slightly worrying small print:

Mechanical and electrical breakdown - "These faults must stop the parts from working so they need repairing or replacing"

i.e. if the engine is noisy, that doesn't count as stopped working does it?.. and if the water pump is leaking slightly it's still working.

Other third party warranties state 'total failure of the part' before repair, and Toyota's sounds like one of these.

I've seen other warranties state when the part stops working 'properly', i.e. if the water pump leaks that is not working properly.

The claim for the cost of the repair must not exceed the standard published prices for the job.

"Cost of the repair. The usual and reasonable charges for parts and labour to repair or replace parts. These costs should be based on the manufactuer's published recommended retail prices and authorised repair times. This does not include any VAT which you are able to recover. We will not pay more than the Repair Limit."

So complex diagnostics or 'unknown' issues causing a problem might not be addressed? - those troublesome ECU/engine managment and oxygen sensor problems for example.

Has anyone had a warranty issue declined regarding these points in the past?

Hi there,

I am currently thinking of taking an extended warranty. The small print does seem kind of !Removed!.

How much were you quoted for that warranty?

Thanks,

Thing is with these kinds of issues you have to push them to get it done under warranty. My girlfriend had oxygen sensor probs with her MR2. Eventually they took a look and replaced one, then another etc. Eventually got the whole bottom engine replaced. Took a lot of arguing and pushing but in the end yes they did it under warranty. Can't emphasise enough how much you need to push to push to get the work done.
