Anti-freeze And Servicing

If you get your car serviced every year, do I need to worry about adding anti-freeze, or would they always check/top up at a service?

Does anyone know if they automatically replace the Battery in the key fob at a service, or do I need to ask, and will it cost extra?

My RAV is due it's 40,000 mile full service, and I'm hoping it's not going to cost a fortune!

Toyota use summer coolant/winter anti freeze combined , in the form of Toyotas RED FOR LIFE.

you shouldn't have an issue with it

you should ask how much a service costs before going ahead with it, and to inform you first if any extras are needed.

I would call around a couple of garages and get quotes, as prices will vary depending on how much they charge and replace....

They say replace the antifreeze every 2 years... and the brake fluid....

There are 2 Stealers in Bristol and I was quite shocked by both prices for the 40K full service - £255 and £267!!!!!!!! They don't even replace the Battery in fob - it's extra!!!

Anyone else live in the South West, and had a full service lately and paid a lot less, and if so, which dealer?

They should check the coolant strength and report it back to you.

If your car is filled with pink (longlife) coolant this is only meant to be changed every 10 yrs or 100,000 miles.

You can get a cheap antifreeze tester and give it a quick check over yourself if you are concerned they havent/arent checking it properly.

Red or green coolant ISNT longlife stuff! And shoudl be replaced at service intervals if the test comes back poor/weak.

Keyfob batteries are charged extra if needed.

Hope this helps

I looked at buying a Rav4 last November at the time got some prices for a service and a 40,000 mile service was £216-63 the cost of servicing varies so much from one dealer to another the one I use is about £50 cheaper than a more local one
