High Milage?

Hi I will be viewing a white 96 N' reg celica today.

The one big bad bit is that it has 165k on the clock, but the seller claimed that it's be through full services 1000 miles ago.

Other things seems ok from the pics.

the seller is asking for £1350

Can anyone give me some advice while viewing the car please?

Many thanks

W

Is it an ST, GT or GT4, is it import or UK.

Personally I would say 165k was too high - there's plenty about for similar money with no more miles on.

As for colour white is a bit of a strange one, you either love it or hate it. A lot of people won't buy a white car, but then you've got a few people hunting for only a white car. White with Jap cars means something in Japan. Just be aware that it might not be as easy to sell on in the future.

I would have said the engine would be good for at least 200k, but 200k is only 35k miles away!

it's a GT uk spec I believe, really need to have a view cuz the pics aren't too good.

So how much would you think this car worth cuz I want a bargain LOL

Thanks for the reply, ta

I wouldn't say the price was far off, it probably can't go much cheaper. I just had a quick scan over autotrader and the cheapest good runner is a red 95 GT with 110,000 miles for £1350, which I would have thought was a better buy as it's the same money only a year older but 55k miles less.

Mates I've looked at the car yesterday with my mate who's a mechanic

bad bits first:

high milage mentioned, bit rust and bubbling on boot after the rear wiper, a stonechip on windscreen, no tax at the moment

but......

full service done 1000 miles ago, looks very tidy and clean for overall (inte, exter and engine bay), new cambelt done, engine sounds great, drives very well, MOT till Jan 08

and it's a white car...

but......

seller won't let her go unless I could offer him £1150

advice please?

It's cheap enough but it's not brilliant, you probably won't get any better for the money but if you can afford to spend more then you could get better.

It's just down to your choice really

I don't mind paying a hundred quid on top of that but there isn't any white gen6's around except one on eBay asking for £2000...

Offer them a grand, give them your mobile number, tell them you will only give a thousand. They are in no position to bargain with mileage like that, 165K miles combined with the rust and the windscreen means they are unlikely to get any more for it, if they do it ain't your loss.

However if you really want the car give them £1150, bear in mind they have droped £200 off after you viewed, few days and I think they will let it go for £1000, good luck.

Mates I've got her yesterday for £1050, so I'm a newbie here now.

Will post pics later when sun shines ^_^

pre-facelift was the first gen 6's until sometime in 1996, then they got a bit of a refresh - nothing major - just to help sales.

The facelift consisted of:

Adding a bonnet spoiler just infront of the windscreen wipers to stop bonnet flex when travelling over 100mph

Clear front indicators instead of orange ones

Different front bumper, the original had one big hole for the grille and the spots the facelift had three holes.

Different rear spoiler (facelift has 3 posts, pre-facelift had two posts)

Increased Noise Reduction - no idea where or how

Can't think of anything else

Let's not get carried away, 165K is a lot of miles, and it's on the car too not just the engine. Are you referring th the muck Ford produce when you mnetion Zetec ? I imagine a Toyota engine would last a hell of a lot longer than them, they aren't regarded as being a great engine, not a bad engine line up certainly but not great.

a zetec is a reliable motor just lacks perfomance the toyota is a reliable motor and has plenty of power ill never get another ford after owning a jap car i think the milage can be reflected on the owner my car was owned by 2 ladys so maybe im lucky as they had looked after it well and always serviced it to the T but when i was looking for a celica it wernt like any we looked at seemed ruff all started and all drove well

I don't know exactly what you think Zetec is mate, but it refers to a wide variety of engines from the 1.25 16V in a 1996 Fiesta to the diesels in the last model Mondeo, also Lotus used some of the sportier ones. I view Zetec as meaningless fancy badging.
