Hi Everyone,

I just bought my new (to me) RAV4.

It is a 2005, 5Door, 2.0L D4D. It is the one with the air scoop thingy in the bonnet. Can anyone tell me what the exact model is?

The forum here looks really good, and I have been flicking through the various threads this afternoon.

I have a couple of questions:

What is the air scoop thingy on the bonnet? Is it just decorative or does it supply cold air to the turbo?

The garage used that horrible oily cleaner on the leather. What do you guys use for that natural looking matt finish when cleaning leather?

Anyone know the exact BHP for the 2.0L D4D?

I have a little I-Pod shuffle, anyone know the most cost effective way of connecting this? I have an FM Transmitter but it isn't great, i'd prefer a wired option.

I am not collecting the car until next Friday, and it is booked in to have bluetooth and maybe I-Pod built in, so will post pictures then.

Thanks in advance, and look forward to bombarding you all with questions.

Brian.

EDIT: Eh, that should be HellO All....

Hi Brian and welcome to the club

I can answer a couple of your questions and I'm sure somebody will help with the others.

I use Turtle Wax leather treatment and conditioner on my wifes car and it leaves it looking natural not oily.

As for the iPod shuffle, if it's similar to the ordinary iPod and you have a tape deck in your car just get a tape adapter from Asda or somewhere like that, I've used one in my car for ages and it works just fine you don't get the interference as with the transmitter, otherwise it will have to be some other form of wired link direct.

Hi Brian, welcome to the club

to determine your model, you would have to give a bit more info, I thought being that you have leather it

would be an XT4 or XT5 but if I remember right the Irish models are different. They have names rather

than letters/numbers. The bonnet scoop is not decorative its to let the air into the intercooler. The output

from your 2.0 D4D is around 115 BHP if I remember right (same as mine). There are various threads about

the best way to fit your I Pod, use the search function at bottom of page.

Hope you enjoy your Rav, great choice

Cheers,

Dave.

Welcome to TOC Brian

Your model RAV the 4.2 has the scoop on the front, and as mentioned feeds air (and all sorts of dead bugs as well) into the intercooler...the newer shape RAV's (4.3) do not have a bonnet scoop as the intercoolers for them is located behind the front bumper...(been a topic on this). I personally like the bonnet scoop as it make the car look mean...some owners in the US of A have fitted these to there petrol models (they don't get the diesel model ) for cosmetic reasons.... :!Removed!: :!Removed!:

Ireland Model RAV's I believe are not numbered as UK Mainland one's are...And as any one can get leather fitted as an option or standard, it's a little hard to specifically say what one you have....

I use some leather conditioner I got with our sofa's....and this keeps then all nice...be careful of some brands as they make the seats all slippery..as my daughter found out once when I went around a roundabout a bit too quick

Enjoy you RAV (when you get it) and post some pictures up when you do.......

As far as I know the ROI Rav4 models (4.3) are Sol and Luna. They also do not get the T180 model over there.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies.

The model I have is the Luna model. The leather was an optional extra that the original owner had installed. I thought there might be production model numbers, similar to BMWs classifacitions, E46 and E60 etc.

I will have a search for the IPod threads. I did look in the interior/exterior forum.

So, I collect it this friday.. can't wait...

Not sure whether it's official, but there is.

There's the 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 versions.

I'm guessing yours is a 4.2?
