Gearbox Oil

Hey Guys and Gals,

Has anybody done a manual on changing the oil? Is it difficult? and what oil is recommended?

Reason....

My 2nd gear is quite tight to get into gear! As I just found out as I tried to change into it outside the Toyota garage! To say the least I was embarassed as people and staff were on the forecourt! What made it worse was the fact that I was giving it some and was in LIFT!!! The shame of it!

Anyway! 4th is also a bit tight and I have a tiny squeak when I select 1st or 2nd gear anyway! soo... i thinks oil change! Unless anyone else has an idea!!!

Rolley! (a really embarrased rolley)

Going from past experience, (not on Toyota's) changing gearbox oil is unlikely to make a difference, unless you have done a high mileage. Perhaps what you should be looking at is ensuring that all linkages have free movement, not worn and are sufficiently lubricated. By the ways Sod's Law ensures that you only ever miss a gear/make an @rse of yourself when you have an audience... been there... managing to drop a Kawasaki Z1100 at approx 10mph negotiating a corner, with all my mates watching. (It was a long time ago, and they have "mostly" forgotten)

l have a few questions about the gearbox oil change.

And do l need a 24mm socket for the job ?

How easy is it to put new oil in, is it a bluepeter job with a funnel and some hose ?

Thanks in advance !!

You could try to put a little tube based on TEFLON in the gearbox mostly its 200cc

i think the toyota box is crap.

anyhow when you change oil make sure you get fully synthetic and not partly mineral oil based. draining it is easy but filling it requires hose and a funnel.
