I have never used the second key for my 53 Avensis T4. This week I had to use it only to find it would not unlock the car. I unlocked the car manually as expected the alarm went off but when I started the engine the alarm stopped.

I went to the local Toyota dealer with the second key today and explained the problem The dealer found the Battery in the second key was totally flat. The dealer said this will happen if you do not use the key.

A little tip use both your keys regularly.
