Revs Surging Up And Down

Hi to you all,

I am a new member and I am hoping some of you may be able to help me.

I have a j reg surf 2.4 auto ssr-x, which i have owned for 2 years.

For the last year the surf has been having surges of revs.

It happens if I am sitting at a junction or even when driving along.

The revs pick up by about 600 revs, so as you can imagine the surf wants to pull away as it is an auto.

This problem is getting worse and also dangerous as it sometimes happens as you are about to brake and all of a sudden the car surges forward.

The engine management said the surf needed a new throttle control sensor and a air intake sensor, I replaced both and still has the same problem.

One thing I have noticed is, if you leave the surf sat for a week or so, it is a couple of days before the surges start happening again.

Have any of you had this preblem or heard of it before, and if so please could you advise.

Many thanks in advance

Stripes.

have you checked for error codes . ??

it sounds to me like a possible leak some where on a vaccuum pipe - get yourself a spray bottle filled with water and a bit washing up liquid , when it begins to surge .spray the vaccuum pipes in some kind of order , if the revs settle you could of found a pipe with a pin hole in it.

a wild guess , but it may spawn a result. ;)

Hi,

Sorry, it has taken so long for me to reply.

Computer died on us, and had to be replaced.

Tried your idea, with the vacuum hoses and had no luck with surging problem.

I have checked for error codes for the diagnostics before and the codes flashing told me the air intake sensor and the thottle control senser needed replacing.

I replaced both and it still surges.

It was some time ago, that i did this and i have now lost the list of codes.

Does any one happen to have a list of diagnostics codes, so i can check them again as the diagnostics on the dash is flashing codes 2,4,8, and 12.

Many thanks for your help,

Stripes.

Sorry

Still no luck solving this problem.

If your surf has started doing this try and get it sorted.

I have left it far to long to start sorting it out.

The problem has got worse and worse to the point of it being a bit dangerous.

Surf constantly trying to pull away on it's own, dangerous when your in a car park reversing into a space.

Good luck

Keep you posted if i get it sorted.

I think its a generic diesel thing... We hav ea disel polo run around and that does is, as does a mates L200, I thought it might be a stuck injector or something?

Hi,

I have been told by a diesel mechanic that, I am sucking air into the fuel line from somewhere, and this is what courses the revs to go up and down in this manner.

I changed the fuel filter about 1 year ago and I forgot to lock the primer pump down, so I don't know if the air has got in there or not.

Cheers

Stripes.
