Where Is It?

i had a drag with a audi a3 1.9tdi and beat him of the line but he started pullin past me at 70mph (obviously not on a public road).

I also managed to keep up with a 2.4 20v fiat stilo up until 80 ish.

in 3rd gear it goes up to 90mph (not on the road obviously )

then i put 4th gear and it goes up to 95mph

all the car would do was 95mph in 4th gear

Could someone tell me where all these ‘Private’ roads are (which just happen to have other road users on them)

It seems I am missing out on having a bit of fun in my YTS

If someone could let me know where this stretch of smooth tarmac is which must be several miles long, I can have a blast in my T Sport

Thanks in anticipation.

Top one is probably true as you can get an A3 with 105PS (up to 250PS) so yeah a YTS would beat the lower spec 1.9TD as it is smaller and has more BHP

Fiat - don't really care lol

Someone's missed the point of the post :)

Yeah, would be interesting to know where they are. At least if they said round the TT circuit or something it would be almost believable...

TBH I knew what the point of the post was and TBH I don't care.

31mph in a 30mph - tut tut etc

People brake the law everyday and not just speeding so get over it

It may effect me one day, it might not, but I don't really want to dwell on it as I have better things to think about than a naughty BMW etc doing 100MPH on a motorway.

If they brake the law then it's their problem and nobody elses - let the police solve all their driving crime with speed cameras ;)

*this isn't directed at anyone - just making a point that I didnt miss the point but infact decided ignored it like the majority of everyone else

I really don't think you have even now, I think he was just making the joke that everyone say's they have done things on private roads when they clearly haven't, as far as I could tell he wasn't telling speeders off, and neither was I, just a little joke...

According to a few GOV websites there are 40,000 private roads in the UK

The way to find out where they are is to ask your local council

Remember to get permision before driving on them as you could be arrested for tresspassing ;)

And there you go :P

"Excuse me, can me and my friend borrow your road to turn it into a drag strip..." :D

Worth a go.

the road into my college campus is a private road, slightly downhill, long sweeping right hander, great fun

people are always racing down it to the speedbumps at the car park entrance

at least one a week loses it and wallops the kerb if the roads are a bit greasy.

so much fun to see so many chavs who think they can drive writing off their corsas :yahoo:

That’s not the sort of private road I was on about. Technically the college road is private, but to race down any road where there are students, teachers or any kind of pedestrian is just asking for trouble.

I think a road with a speed bump is a bit of a give away that speeding is a risk factor considering the high number of weekly accidents.

Well said Dave. I'm really not condoning people racing on public roads but if somebody wants to do it it's up to them, they'll have to suffer the consequences & in 2 & a half years of driving I've never once even seen it happen, so I'd assume they're pretty careful about where they do it. People nowadays seem to go nuts at anybody who edges over the limit when everybody does it at 1 time or another so just leave the racers to it

Yeah, you can actually get the old shape 1.9TDI with 90 BHP, a manual 1.3 Yaris is quicker to 60 than that so it's really not a great achievement.

As for the private roads, if anybody knows some in the Liverpool area that I can have a go of let me know, I'd love to have some fun in the Golf, it'll save me messing about to get it on a proper track

There are private roads all over the place, off the top of my head i can think of at least ten round my area that are within a short drive of my house that are long straight and smooth, perfect for dragging if you wanted to do such things lol.

The more rural you are the more there probably are in the middle of a city there arent going to be any as space is at a premium but in the country or in smaller towns there are loads of them all over the place, private, disused, whatever.

Get over it TVOR - you're just trolling.

As people say, once you're out of the centre of the capital there are many, many private roads.

Your post has reminded my why I spend next-to-no time trawling through the dross on here in the hope of being able to help people...

yeah but what is the disused airfield? private?

Most of them, yes.

They'll be council owned, still owned by the MOD, etc...

There's one or two down here though that are open to the public (when there's no air traffic about), that allow you to use it to do timed runs, etc.
