When the engine is hot and I am driving along normally, when feathering the throttle the car hunts (lurches forwards and backwards) as though there is a lot of play in the driveline...however this is only when driving slowly...during normal driving there is no problem...now I replaced the normal air box two years ago with a K&N system this replaced the airbox but still used the air sensor which is housed inside the filter, it improves breathing and it a lot higher up in the engine bay, to date this is the only mod I have done to the engine....My thought is that the throttle needs adjusting slightly to allow a little more air in during light throttle duty...what are your thoughts on this.

That could be a sod to sort out. I used to have a Carina E that did the same thing under very light throttle position in lower gears and never really got to the bottom of it. It appeared to be just poor throttle damping. One thing that did become apparent on later tinkerings with a 1.8 lean burn was that spark plugs are critical to avoid rough running so you could start by making sure it is properly serviced. Also make sure there are no vacuum pipes off near the inlet manifold.

I can't remeber the name of the guy with the Sierra Cosworth but it could be worth running it past him because he works on these things on a regular basis.

Good luck
