Hi All,

Our Aygo will need a service in the next month or so. I have emailed 3 dealers for prices and was shocked to hear the first quote.

The first dealer to respond, Western Toyota (Sighthill, Edinburgh) quoted £134  for what is basically an oil change.

I asked how much labour (time) was charged and what their hourly rate was. She said 0.7 hours and that they were £70 + VAT per hour. This is only £58 in total for labour.

So, how can the parts for a first service come to £76?

If anyone has the cost breakdown for their service, I would be very grateful to know.

Thanks

DAMN! They're ripping you off!

In The Netherlands the services basically have fixed prices;

1st (15.000km), 3rd (45.000km) and 5th (75.000km) service or year are €99,-

2nd (30.000km) service or year is €189,-

4th (60.000km) service is €195,- but if you bring it in for its 4th YEAR it's €229,-

6th (90.000km) service or year is €235,-

With current exchange rates that would roughly

come to £67, €128, £132 or £154 and finally £159

I know there's a possibility for some PARTS being more expensive

for RHD-cars due to supply and demand principles, but an Oilfilter

and Oil don't really care about which side of the road you're driving on...

Depends how much the oil is. £15 a litre is not an uncommon charge by dealers (nearly £50 for an Aygo, plus filter), but the handbook tells you the spec required so you could always supply your own.

jdavtz - great post. I'll be printing it out and keeping it for future reference. Always useful to have some info when asking for quotes.

I'd be interested to know what consumables are. If it's gloves for the mechanic and a seat cover I'll provide my own and save another £10, screenwash will be topped up so that's another £1. It could be done for less than £70!

Thanks for the replies - I wish I lived in Chester

Both Edinburgh dealers quoted the same (£134) - no surprise there as they are in the same group - I got them down one of them down to £100.

Their price of £134 included things that are not part of Toyota's service schedule, such as, flushing the engine and injectors. The £100 is basically a basic service as outlined by Toyota, plus a wash & vac, which I won't allow them to do, even though they say it is free.

I plan on topping up the washer fluid and scrutinising the bill and questioning any dodgy items
