Advice please:

1 - where is it situated and any hints on removal/replacement

2 - where to source the OEM filter or a copy part, and costs

ok thats easy, open the glove box, remove 1 screw that connects damper to glove box (on left hand side for RHD cars) Glove box now unhooks from bottom edge. Behind there is fan unit for heating, amongst other things, what you are looking for is a panel about 10 inches long by about 1 inch high that sits above the fan unit, there is one clip at each end and it simply pops off, the pollen filter sits horizontally behind it, just slide it out, give it a good shake and/or replace. Job done. If rain lets up here I will pop out and take pics to make it clearer !!

Thanks for the info. I removed that damper screw but the glove box is still fixed rock solid somewhere else. It won't unhook like you say: any ideas?

Once you take the damper screw off, squeeze the sides of the glovebox while pulling it and it should drop free.

Just as an update, my car had the 60k service today. I'd received a call from them saying the pollen filter needed replaccing, and would cost £58 including parts and 30 minutes labour. Now it just took me less than 5 minutes to remove the filter using the above instructions, hoover it out, and replace the filter and glovebox, I think it is an absolute joke that the dealer can charge 30 minutes labour, on top of the rest of the labour they charged me for the service. They had obviusly already looked at it, as the damper screw was only half tightened, so in effect, they were trying to charge me twice on labour for something I'd paid under the service, and only takes a couple of minutes. It's shocking really.

I had the same thing happen to me, What is the point of inspecting the filter? I used to service my old car every 6 months and the pollen filter always needs replacing. I think the replacement of lots of items (like pollen, air, oil filters, brake fluid, etc..) are kept out of the service, so the quoted service cost is kept low, then they call you and quote all the extra work. I'm sure alot of peole just agree to the work as "the cars already at the garage, may as well do it"

As an extra note there are instructions and pictures in the hand book for the car, they show lots of simple jobs including replacement of the pollen filter.
