What Would A New Driver's Side Wing Cost For A 54 Plate Yaris?

Someone kindly hit my car yesterday whilst it was parked and there's minor damage to the driver's side wing - mainly paint taken off but a little dent too. Took it into my local Toyota dealer earlier and they had a look at it and said something about the wing needing replaced plus some paint work for matching purposes etc. They're going to send a quote in the post but it would be nice to have a rough idea of what something like this costs in advance..

About £60 + vat for the wing itself

That's a lot les than what I was expecting (few £100) :)

So what's the general situation with paint? Do these actually match the exisitng metallic paint job or does this require a load of respraying?

To be honest, I can't see exactly why a new wing would be needed as in my unknowledgable opinion, paint is all that's required (can't see any dents etc)

Don't get your hopes up yet. I'm sure Toyota's quote will be in the few hundreds. I'm confused about the dent. In your first post you say there is one, in your last post you say there are no dents. If there arent any dents, then why would you need a new wing? And if the dent is only minor, could a paintless dent removal company straighten it out, then you could get it resprayed.

Well, I can't personally see any dents - only the bits/scuffs where paint has been removed from someone driving their car along mine.

I assumed there must be a dent (or something) as the man at the Toyota garage said I would need a new wing and can't see why else something that looks paintable to me would need replaced - unless they're thinking sucker = £££.

Over the moon with joy with that quote!

Hi Xenole

Can I ask why have you been straight to the dealer?

A local/ independent body-shop might be a much better bet and certainly a damn site cheaper

than Toyota.

If you're not sure all that work is actually necessary get them to check it out without telling them what Toyota think needs repairing first- you may get a pleasant surprise.

If they only quote you for the wing repair/ respray tell them you're wanting to trade it in shortly

and would like it checked over to avoid hidden damage showing up later and affecting the resale value for you. If the wing damage is only cosmetic and the doors open/close without problems, etc, I'd personally be tempted to leave repairs at that. I must admit, bumpers out of line look rubbish so I'd have that put right.

A decent local body shop (not necessarily just a local garage) should be just as thorough as any dealer as their money comes solely from repairs , unlike the dealer where other sections of their franchise contribute to their fat income. Local independent repairers will want to do a good job to keep repair jobs coming in. Get a recommendation from a friend if you're not sure where to take it- otherwise it'll be pot luck and you might wish you'd taken it to the dealer after all.

Hope this helps!

AA
