Can't Pop The Bonnet.

Guys,

Just wondering can anyone help me out with this. I'm driving a 00 Toyota Corolla which is running very well, only problem is when I pull the handle under the dash to pop the bonnet it doesn't do anything. I have to ask someone to hold the handle while I feel around for the clip just under the bonnet to open it so it's a two person job, not ideal if I'm out in the middle of nowhere and I need to get the bonnet open for one reason or the other. Is there a spring or something missing or is it a case of ordering a new part and if so how big or small a job is it? Not the best with this stuff so any help is much appreciated.

Don, get somebody to pull on the handle while you bang on the bonnett with the flat of your hand several times quite firmly, if the catch is just sticking it might free off doing this. If it does not work, then the cable might actually be broken (common ish on early Corolla's) If that is the case you need to pop it to your local garage/dealer for a new cable to be fitted.

it may be as simple as you needing more (or some if there isn't any!) grease around the catch mechanism
