Hatch Door Keeps Unlocking On It's Own While Driving

I have a 2000/W Reg Corolla GLS which is in excellent condition otherwise. Since last couple of weeks, the boot door is having problems. While driving, when the car goes over a bump or a bit of uneven road surface, the boot door unlocks on it's own. Although the door does not open wide, the cabin light comes on because of this. It took me a while to find that all other doors are ok but the boot door is the one having problem. I only knew this because often when I tried to lock the car using remote keys, it wouldn't lock until I open the boot and shut it back firmly.

Can anybody please give me a clue as why this is happening and what can I do to fix this.

Thanx

The first thing I would check is that the locking mechanism is clean and well greased. Also make sure that it moves freely.

Rest the boot lid shut (but not locked) then see how hard you have to push it for it to 'click' shut. You shouldn't need too much pressure, just a decent shove. If it pops open when you have clicked it shut like this it could possibly be a faulty lock, or if you have an electronic release for the boot this could also be faulty or have a loose wire shorting somewhere.

If you cant get it to 'click' shut like this then both halfs of the lock could probably not be lining up properly - you'll need to get in the boot with a torch to check this whilst closing the lid. Should be a simple adjustment.

Other than that, not sure.
