Just got this car and now I'm wondering if I can replace the head unit or add an MP3 player to it. Could someone please advise as to the costs of replacing the head unti, I would not want to do this myself. Has anyone got there's hooked into an MP3 player somehow?

hi there!

basically firstly to add mp3 or ipod you could go two ways buy another headunit with a aux in or an mp3 connector to the back. personally aux in is not to bad except you cant charge the mp3 that way.

to fit an aftermarket headunit you will need a fascia adaptor which are on eBay. you can buy them for about £15 they will fit in to your existing headunit and let you neatly replace the headunit to an aftermarket one.

then you will need to go Halfords or motorworld and buy an adaptor for toyota headunits as the back of the connectors wont fit to another headunit but these connectors are around £15

a new headunit will obivously vary in price depending what you are after. if later you consider puttin in amps and subs which you may aswell do if you are changing the headunit then get a headunit with amp pre out as connecting amp and sub to the orignal headunit is a pain (trust me iv tried) you will have to cut into a million wires tie around and the sound is not crisp very distorted. if you require more help please email me a nd i will show you everything you need to buy and from where.

the fascia you can get from eBay.

other than that it is simple to do if you need anyhelp undoing the headunit please also email me as you have tot ake part by part of from the gear console and so on.

dont bother paying someone else to do it it is fairly simple just plugging in a new lead and sticking in a new headunit.

You might find this a bit closer to home to buy than using eBay
