whats is correct ???

even toyota gave me the choice of the two ?

Either I believe, although I think 5/30 is better in colder weather and 10/40 is better in summer.

The 5 or 10 indicates the thickness of the oil when cold, so in cold weather 5 will be thinner and therefore will give better starting properties. the 30 or 40 indicates the thickness of the oil at 100 degress Centigrade. If you get the engine very hot ie racing etc then the oil can be too thin so you are better with a thicker oil at higher temp.

I think that info is correct from memory - do a search for posts by oilman in the general forum for more info.

my toyota dealer sells me 5/30 always , for my celicas when i owned em and my surf plus my mr2 when i had it. Says its all toyota ever use. :yes::thumbsup:

I just replaced my oil filter yesterday and replaced with 10/40 I went with the advice of warmer weather thicker the oil. May change to 5/30 when the weather is colder.
