Connector In Engine Bay Not Connected To Anything?

Hi Guys,

I came across this connector in the engine bay today (pics below). It was tucked behind the coolant fan switch connector near the thermostat housing.

It appears to be the same as the fan switch connector with the same coloured wire (green, and only one) and part of the same 'loom'.

From the amount of dust etc on it I am guessing it has never been connected to anything.

Just wondering if this is right. Could it be a spare connector for the fan switch?

Wonder if someone can check if they have the same on theirs (mine is a 97 E10 Si 4afe).

It is most probably not used. Looms are made up for many different models (low/high spec)

so this leaves alot of connectors redundant in certain models/applications

Cheers guys, sort of puts my mind at rest.

Probably as its only got the one wire it is meant to connect to something passive (i.e. no seperate power required, just like the fan switch, which is controlled by heat and just shorts to ground completing a circuit I would imagine).

So my guess is that is is meant for some kind of pressure/heat switch.

oh, whilst I'm here - does anyone have any good tips for getting at the bottom nut on the fuel filter? Does the wheel arch lining have to come out?

toyota put a lot of spare connectors on their cars, as for the bottom nut, i think you get at it through the arch through the large hole the track rods come out of, if its the setup i think it is, otherwise you need a 14mm and a 17mm (might be 19 but dont think so) spanner

Cheers all, not too worried about the spare connector now.

Regarding the fuel filter, you are right - take off the wheel and you can get at the lower nut through the hole.

I've had a look and it needs a 14mm flare nut spanner. Just the one I haven't got.

Thanks,

Gareth

Just be careful when undoing the lower fuel pipe union - they can round off very easily.

Make sure you hold the fuel filter with a spanner ( 17mm?) when "cracking" the lower union off.
