Seat Cover Removal For Cleaning?

I have Canton charcoal cloth interior and is it causing me a headache!!! It gets very mucky looking very quickly and goes to a light grey just as if someone has sprinkled a light dusting of talcum over the seats and it forms a kind of honeycomb pattern. I have used upholstery shampoo and altho the end result looks very impressive and clean, this doesn't last for very long before it is looking decidedly yucky again. I came to the conclusion that maybe I wasnt removing the cleaning agent properly so a couple of weeks ago I gave the car to a valeting firm and yes it came back gleaming and clean and smelling all nice. Today - it looks all dusty and yucky again. I am not driving thru any dust storms or dry dusty roads (lol - impossible in this country at the moment) and am at a loss. When this dust like residue appears I sprayed a fine mist of water on the seats and dabbed at it with a bath towel to remove it. The valeting company suggests that it could be some sort of reaction with the seat foam underneath the material or coming from the air conditioning!. I do know that the dealer used a deodourising agent in the air conditioning at the last service .

My question - how difficult is it to remove the covers from the seats so that they can be cleaned professionaly and enable me to examine the interior of the seats for any possible cause for this? Anyone know please? I guess if its too dificult then it will have to be valeted every few weeks but when only doing around a hundred miles a week that does seem a bit of an overkill !

Are the seats getting wet when you open the door? We have replaced plenty of corolla front seat covers due to the fire retardant coating making the covers white and patchy when they get wet. Possibly the same thing on your avensis?

There are also some older threads on this site about MrT replacing certain types of black upholstery because they were suffering from salt stains. Occupants were sweating into the upholstery and when it dried out left white powdery stains.

I mentioned the seats to the dealer last week when I took the car back for the lighting problem and the response was that it is a known problem with Corolla but not with the Avensis. I cant seem to find the earlier threads you mention, I will have to look again. They will then look into it and try Toyota with the problem. Thanks

Getting a bit miffed with these seats now! Dealer said that as the car seats are not within the range of "faulty manufactured" covers, there is nothing they can do and suggested another Valeting company, so I had the same company that they themselves use to valet it for me last week. Came back looking pristine and smelling lovely. Problem solved ?? Nah, dont believe it !! Less than a week later the greyish dirty looking patches are beginning to reappear.
