Attaching Mesh To The Front Bumper

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have just bought some black mesh to put in the front bumper to stop the stones from damaging the radiator. but I have no idea on how to fix it into the bumper

Do I glue it or silicone it???? attatch it with sellotape??? use staples???? has any one done a step by step guide for girls on the above subject????

TIA

I used loads of black slicone. Easier if the bumper's off.

Mine still needs doing after 2 years of having my Border front, my Rad is battered!

Get it done already before your rad dies!

I cable tied mine so it could be removed easily if necessary.

Aye I am prolly gonna cable tie mine  when I get the new bumper lol

well I am doing it on Friday...so will let you know which way we went with.

Don't cable tie it... do it properly! There shouldn't really be a reason for you to remove it in the future.

I dont think I can fit mine without taking the nose section off, there isnt much room to play with!

What makes you say that any other method (lots of sealant presumably) is doing it 'properly' compared to cable ties?

If your car's at a bodyshop getting this done, would you be happy with it coming back with cable ties (which are visible) to hold it on with?? I know I wouldn't be!

You don't need to use lots of silicone, but you do need the bumper off. The end result will look alot neater.

If your getting a new bumper anyway, you might as well do it with silicone. Although it'll take a bit longer, it will look better.

I'd be quite unhappy with anything other than the cable tie solution.

Thanks to the design of the MR2 grill, the cable ties are absolutely hidden once everthing is put back together.

only the struts you see in black have had their trims replaced and you cannot see a trace of the cable tie behind them. I find it hard to believe that such an invisible job could be done with sealant (though I've not tried it, so I guess I could be wrong).

But my point is, the cable tie method can be completely invisbile, and is very secure. So in my opinion, it is doing it properly. Well, I'm happy with anyway ;)

You could hand paint the cable ties too.

I would glue it in place tho.

I might do it with cable ties, i will do as jappy said and just paint the cable ties the same colour as the bumber.

Wont be done yet though other things to do first.

Seeing as I'll be getting a new bumper I might well do that Jim... I am also thinking of getting those metal bars to go across the front.. anyone know the best place to get these? and how to fit? </hijack> ;)

Well I didnt get time to put the mesh on...but her clear lights aqnd new number plates look swish.

I did mine and my ex's with the nose cones in place.

I used a special clear drying contact type adheasive I use for rebuilding loudspeakers on my Rev3. I cut the grill so it was in two pieces with a join being hidden by the middle vertical support in the nose cone. I had some space for my hands as it didn't have an aircon.

With my Ex's Rev2 we used small cable ties. The vertical supports on the original nose cone has plastic covers that can be removed. I cut the grill into four as there was little space due to the aircon rad. I cable tied the 4 bits of grill in place on the vertical supports and then put the plastic covers back on, hiding the cable ties.
