New Owner, Some Questions?

Hello all,

Just bought my first toyota, a 2003 Avensis D4d T-spirit. Had it a few days now and have to say very happy with it so far. Cabin quality seems to me to be at least as good as any of the other cars i tested(A4, 3 series etc) if not better. Very comfortable to drive, solid feel and all that good stuff.

I have a couple of questions maybe you guys could help me with.

1: Does anyone know where i can get (reasonably priced) update for the Sat nav, mine has a 2002 dvd in it but the price seems very high to replace it(170 Euros here in ireland from the toyota update website). Is there a site i could download it from and burn it myself?

Or, will a disc for the newer TNS310 sat nav work in my system(think its the TNS300) because i saw a couple of these for sale?

2: When i got it the garage put it through the NCT for me(irish MOT), and it needed a headlight adjusted. However they left the back cover off the light and it since has condensation in it. Is there a quick way of getting rid of this?

3: Whats the best setting for the climate control to avoid the windscreen fogging up, as it seems do fog up very easily?

4: Is there a way of resetting the average MPG on the computer screen, without re-fuelling the car? ie, can i fool the system into thinking the car's been re-fuelled.

5: Finally, Any little general tips i should know about, being new to the car?

Sorry for all the questions, but im a noob!

Cheers

David

Welcome to the forum David.

As far as the headlight is concerned I would have thought that if you drive the car with the back cover off, the heat from the engine ought clear the condensation. Then refit the cover but if the condensation returns it suggests you may have the dreaded headlight problem. There are many threads on this forum covering this subject. Might be worth keeping a close eye on this if your car is under warrenty.

The windscreen fogging up could be caused if you have the setting on 'recirculate'. Set it to draw the air in from outside and it shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think you can reset average mpg in between fuel fill ups I'm afraid.

Can't comment on your Sat Nav issue but I believe this has been covered by previous threads.

re; resetting mpg keep your finger on the mileage button on centre console for about 2 to 5 seconds,

you can also change from mph to kph if you push in the circular button and turn to either the left for kph and right for mph

on the centre dash

With the windscreen fogging, check the pollen filter isnt blocked, mine was full of leaves, quick clean and a vacuum and it cured windscreen an not warmin cabin very quickley. Also run aircon every now and again to keep system dry
