I Finally Changed The Coolant

Well, I finally got around to do it, Bought toyota red ready mixed. Draining was easy but the drain plug on the engine was a bit fiddly to get to, the rad ***** was easy . I was changing the coolant from green to red so had to flush.

So, I filled up with plain water, let it warm up with pressure cap off and watching the bubbles of air escape (until the thermo opened ) then left it a bit to cool and drained , repeated again with plain water.

I finally filled with the mixture , run it again with cap off and then let the engine cool right down ( left for a few hours) and then topped up. Well worth the hassle.

I changed my coolant a couple of weeks ago and some of it got in the grass beneath the car. Now there is a big wellow spot of dead grass in that place...

It's easier to disconnect bottom hose than play with drain plug(If there is a bottom hose accessible).Not that you'll have to do it again,not sure what interval is.No longer do any maintenance,car is motability,contract hire.Only put fuel in!!!Can't say I miss scrabbling about under broken motor cars though.!!
