Replacing Head Unit In 2004 Rav Xt3

Hi. I've just bought a 2004 XT3 to replace my 1994 model which gave heroic service but had to go. On the old RAV I swapped out the radio cassette unit for a nice CD/MP3 player and put in some better Speakers. I'd probably want to do the same on the new RAV but the CD player is combined with the mpg / temp display in one double din unit.

To get better sound quality from the head unit, is my only option to replace the double din unit with a better one (either single or double) and lose the mpg / temp display?

Thanks.

Tonkski.

Tonski,

I had a long look at doing this myself, and the conclusion I came to was that you would have to

lose the trip computer function. So no MPG readout, but some members on here reckon its not

that accurate anyway (2-4 MPG adrift). Its really a matter of personal choice, stick with the MPG

or upgrade and lose it. There are a lot of nice double din units on the market, the ones I looked

at started at just over £200 and went up to nearly £1000 for the type with full screen sat nav and

DVD.

Cheers,

Dave.

Tonski,

There is a member on here called Uncle Pipps or Pipps. He has set up his own website

and put on the mods he has done to his Rav. It is actually quite good. He has done the

Speakers and I think the head unit plus a lot of other stuff. I think if do a google search

for Pipps home page you might get it. If not do a search on here, or another member

may post the link its very useful.

Good luck,

Dave

I have Kenwoods (DDX7029/G520 & DNX7200) in my Rav 4's. For the MPG I use http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/ Speakers will be the next project since they are so bad...

In the USA they have Board Computer ScanGaugeII if you need the MPG and more. Easy to connect to the Diagnostics Connector.
