what are the main changes that let me know the diffrence in the 2nd and 3rd gen surfs thats the 1996 onwards ones?

i'm looking to buy a surf and was thinking these would be the better buy but you may have another point of view?

any help will be great

rear door opens like a door , rather than a drop down window and drop down tail gate.

gen 3 also have a centre diff fitted so 4x4 mode can be permanent .

i own a gen 2 from japan , its an awesome beast .

you can compare the models here --- http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/

You will find a load of info here http://www.hiluxsurf.eu/faq_intro.htm , but the main differences are that the 3rd gen has a one piece lift up rear door, it has more legroom and also has a centre diff so that 4wd can be used on road, if you feel the need.

I have 3rd gen also a 2nd gen and a VX80 4.2td Landcruiser, and they are all brilliant.

Also notice the accessory power points for curling tongs inside the rear load compartment, and if you see the owner getting out of the vehicle, you'll notice that he looks a lot like Lawrenece LLewellyn Bowen, and is probably a hair dresser! :D ... ... :yahoo:...
