Hello,

Was just wondering - what types of fuel can Aygo take? What have you used? With what results?

Cheers

Wot, noone uses any kind of fuel? 70 reads and nobody?

I just use regular supermarket stuff.

Tried BP ultimate a few times and really couldn't tell much difference in performance or consumption.

Not worth the extra money putting it in the Aygo in my opinion.

Thanks for your reply... I'm asking because the company I work for pays for my fuel up to a certain amount of litres per month, no matter what the price (could be using kerosene for all they care). So I was thinking of trying some of those extra-octane super-unleaded choices... My main worry is: maybe they won't do much good, but will they do any bad?

They won't do any bad and if you're not paying for it then using something like Shell Optimax or BP Ultimate may be beneficial as they supposedly contain extra detergents to keep your engine clean.

Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it. I've used one tank of the stuff (will refill today - running low), I think it was BP; I think I got more mileage out of it (though not 100% sure, since I don't keep tabs on it), and I *think* it feels like it revs up with more spirit at low speeds... But could be just what I wanna see.

Well, if someone else is paying for it, go for Ultimate or Optimax (or whatever its called these days).

They may not do that much for performance or economy - they may though be better for the car and/or the environment.

So far only used the regular 95 Octane jungle Juice. Haven't really felt the need to try the 97 stuff as we bought it for the economy not the speed. The consumption is definately improving now the engine is bedding in, Ok so I've only done 2600 miles in 10 months, but each tank is lasting longer, and reached 48.5 mpg last fill. Beats the pants of our Old Vectra Est, which managed around 28mpg on the same useage.

My experience is that if your vehicle makes automatic ignition timing adjustments (usually only found in sports cars) to compensate for different grades of fuel, then Shell Optimax is best and will result in improved accelaration response. If not, you will notice a marginally noiser engine with no significant change in fuel economy or power.

However, for the Aygo, BP ultimate is best because it burns very cleanly. The speed the flame fills the combustion chamber is well balanced to provide increased torque at low revs and still burn cleanly at high revs.

My opinion on petrol is based on the effects seen on fuel injected 125cc engine, which is much more sensitive to different grades of fuel

If you have a diesel Aygo, BP Ultimate diesel is the only fuel the DOESN'T make the aygo sound like a tractor when idling and makes the engine significantly more responsive when pushed.
