Toyota Sat Nav

I am picking up a Yaris Verso this week. It is a 2003 T-Spirit with the factory fitted sat nav. Can anyone please tell me anything about it. Is it any good compared to the personal sat navs now on sale? What can it do? and what can't it do? How do you use it? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The standard Toyota sat nav is only a monochrome display and frankly is not as good as a modern aftermarket sat nav.

The Toyota Sat Nav disc updates are quite expensive and may well cost as much as a good aftermarket system.

The car should come with sat nav insructions in the handbook

The TNS300 (Toyota Navigation System – DVD based) is shown in the display window of the radio so it’s not in colour. It’s an excellent piece of kit (I have it fitted in my T Sport)

The basic premise is to guide you by voice as you drive along with basic road maps and arrow directions. This tends to let you focus on the road rather than be distracted by a flash display. It has never let me down and have always found where I wanted to go and I always get home.

As it’s built into the software of the car your can customise some of the features.

The newer handheld aftermarket ones are more decorative with colour 3D screens which weren’t around when yours was installed as it was probably installed in 2003 as an option.

I now have the car, and the sat nav is a TNS 200.
