hi all - long time toyota owner but just discovered this site whilst looking for help with our yaris's handbrake. it is an '04 T2 1.0 and just FAILED its first MOT! this was due to the handbrake not gripping the nearside rear wheel. not had a chance to look proper at it due to rain but was wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if any one can shed any light before i get started?

great site btw!

Hi

Does the hand brake act on rear discs? I had this problem on my Avensis. Disconnect the handbrake cables, make sure the levers at the inner end of the slave cylinders are hard against the stops. Pump the footpedal really hard to make sure the pistons are fully up against the discs. This should reset the handbrake. Reconnect the cables. Also check there is no air in the hydraulic system.(Bleed the brakes) This shouldn't have any effect on handbrake operation but it certainly improved the feel of my footbrake, on a car that has been serviced at a garage for the last 5 years!

Thanks for your answer vivherman...............I fear that you may be nearly TWO YEARS too late with your reply as the original question was asked July 2007 ;)

The clue was that his "04 T2 had just failed its first MOT :)

I’m surprised no one answered the question when it was first posted, but if anyone is reading, the T2 would have drums as standard (not sure if VSC was available then as an option)
