Hi all, newbie here so please bear with me

Has anyone any idea how to remove the TNS600 Satellite Navigation unit from a Hilux ?

I'm considering adding a reversing camera to it but need to know if the unit has the required ports on the back of it so that the camera can use the display

Thanks

Hi Webbouk

If it's in the normal place(centre of dash) then you need to remove the glove box and the panel under the steering column, you may also need to the plastic panel behind the heater sliders.

After these have been removed you should see 4 X 10mm bolts with crosshead slots in, undo these and slide the unit towards you, this then enables you to undo the 2 small bolts on either side of the unit that hold it into the bracket.

I don't think you'll be able to use the unit as a camera monitor as the satnav screen uses a different format for the disply.(although i could be wrong)

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Paul

Hi, Thanks for the reply, the Sat Nav on the new model is located in the midle of the dash between the vents, above the controls, unlike the earlier models

I had a link to an American site showing the fitting of a reversing camera to a unit very similar to this but need to know if this unit has the ports to connect to, the local dealership couldn't advise either

Hi newbie, how did you get on with connecting a reversing camera to the TNS600, was there a video in port, I am also looking at doing the same, so any information would be helpfull.

Thanks

If its the new shape hilux you dont need to remove the glove box or lower dash.

Just remove the heater knobs and unscrew the centre screw, pull the whole of the heater vent panel off from around the stereo unit and you will have access to the 10mm bolts (x4)

Undo these and pull the unit out.

Thanks for the info Mart and Gupster

Strax, I gave up on the idea not wanting to wreck the dash trying to get the unit out, but now I think I'll give it another go

The Hilux has/is a brilliant machine and perfect as a work vehicle as well as a bit of a toy, the only niggles I have with it is the lack of vision when reversing which has resulted ina couple of tiny dings in the rear bumper from bollards, and the black paintwork as it scratches so easily

Six months of hard use and the only thing that's gone wrong with it resulted in a warranty claim for a new set of alloys as the original ones developed rashes of black 'freckles' under the laquer

The Toyota warranty guy thought it was something to do with cleaning agents until the spare was dropped and it too had a rash of black dots on it

Webouk - I had a Navara before the Hilux it also suffered from a few rear dings, I would like to try and avoid this, the camera would prove very useful, you will have to let me know how you get on.

Thanks

Strax
