Trd Quick Shift Kit

Hi all,

Just took delivery this afternoon of a TRD quick shift gear kit.

Not fitted it yet, but got it from Fensport this afternoon. Ordered it on Friday and it was on doorstep this afternoon. Not bad

Came built with the heavy plastic base and metal shift lever all fitted, spring loaded and greased. As the stain on my sofa will testify

Also came with leather look (not the best quality ive ever seen) gearknob, but at least it was included, unlike most other quick shift kits and levers i believe.

Im not sure exactly what sort of percentage in travel reduction its going to get, has anyone fitted on of these before??

My only concern is that it seems to move even more than the OEM shifter in the car as standard - i know its just sitting loose on my floor and its not got the cables attached yet etc etc, but will this reduce the travel a lot?

I suppose the proof of the pudding is in the eating and all that and I wont know for sure untill its fitted in the car, but just curious if anyone else has this, or any other short shift kit?

Let me know,

Cheers,

G

Cheers mate  ,

Well id be happy with 25% reduction, bit more would have been nice but hey. Lets see how this goes first.

To be honest i was getting pretty worried  , it just feels like there is so much more movement in this new quick shifter, installation in the car would really need to tighten it up a bit...

Ill need to get some photos on here first too, before i get it installed.

Thanks anyway, dont feel quite so bad now!

ive fitted the TTE short shift in my TS, but its harder to change than the TRD one, bcos u need to take the stick out of the plastic stand bcos they dnt provide it but it only took me bout 20mins to fit bcos i fitted it on my previous 1.6vvti which took me bout 45-1hr to fit the first time

i've got the trd kit. and i ditched the gearknob and kept the original. the trd one is too light. stick it on eBay you'll get twenty quid for it.

installation is a bit fiddly as you have to take the centre console out. travel is about 25% as mentioned earlier but its much more precise than the oe gear shifter.

I've also got the TRD shifter, and it is certainly noticeably shorter in the shift, and as nrgizer said, it's a much more precise and solid when changing gears compared to the OE one. Incidentally, I got mine from nengun in Japan and it came to about £115 delivered.

Cheers Guys for the info! Appreciated,

Ill see how quickly i can get it fitted now, i was actually going to PM some of you that i saw had these fitted, but youve saved me the bother! Again Cheers!

Ill try both gear knobs and see which one feels best if the kits fitted swaping a gearknob is hardly going to be a problem.

The trd one does feel a bit like an after thought with the kit - its a nice touch but id rather have paid a few quid more and have it come with a quality unit (or, i suppose paid less and have it come without it!)

One last thing, whats this likely to do to my warranty, ive still got about 16 months left and dont want to completely chuck it. Especially after the trouble i had with my pistons/rings six months after i got it. (Check the realllly old posts for that saga :crybaby: ) Is it likely to invalidate it, as ive already got the Blitz sonic induction kit on it? I wouldnt have thought it would make that much of a difference, its a relatively minor upgrade.

Cheers again,

G
