Please Advise : Cannot Decide New Or Used Yaris

Hello Everyone,

I have decided to buy an Yaris and fallen in love with its new shape. However I cannt decided weather to buy a brand new car (1.3 T3 costing 11k) or go for an used car from a franchise (1.3 T3 costing arund 9K, < 1 year old, 7000 miles )

When I first started looking for the a new car my budget was around 6K, but having seen the new shape I decided I have to have it. I am increasing my budget from 6K to 9K for used car. But the general advice I have been getting from people around me is to go for a brand new one.

Is it worth spending the extra 2K for a brand new car and doubling my budget ?

Cheers

Depends if u see yourself needing any money for any other expenses in life? All depends on your financial situation!

Some people feel they need to buy a new car but imo it is a waste of money when as you drive the car out of the show room it will be worth 2k less.

If you are extremely picky about the spec and colour you want, and you plan to keep the car forever, then maybe it makes sense to buy new.

But when you can get mint examples for less money what is the point!?

Some people feel they need to buy a new car but imo it is a waste of money when as you drive the car out of the show room it will be worth 2k less.

And yet in this case the dealer is offering a saving of just 2K for a car that's a year old.

I'd look to buy s/h but I'd be expecting a bigger saving than 2K for a 1 year old car. I know these vehicles hold their value very well, but the way I look at it is that over 3 years you can probably expect a car of this value to depreciate at about £2K per annum, but as Robbie said, a big chunk of that occurs the minute you drive out of the forecourt, so a year later the depreciation should be more like 3K or possibly more. If you really can only save £2K by buying second hand then personally I'd seriously consider the new car. But that's why dealer second hand prices are so high - to make the price of the new car look attractive.

As someone else said - it's your money and only you can decide what is right for your personal circumstances.

Hmm, for the sake of depreciation I'd go for the older one - but have you test drove both and seen how they feel to drive?

Hi,

I must say I am more confused that ever  !!! But I take everyone's point and I do understand that either of the 2 options have its own advantages and disadvantages.

I guess what I was really after was to know if the 2K discount worth going after the older model specifically for the new shaped Yaris.

Blue84: No I have not test driven either of them but thanks for the tip.. I will make sure I drive both when go over this weekend.

Buying a brand new car is a great feeling.... however the loss of money as soon as you drive it away is not!

Personally, if I were you (and I've bought 2 brand new Yaris' so I know what its like!), I would go for the second hand one. With 7k on the clock it will be "run-in" so to speak, plus you can barter for a bit more money off - as long as the car is in good working order (and why should it not be) then with a £2,000+ saving, you are laughing...

I loved buying mine brand new, but I don't think I would do it again... each to their own though
