Hey guys

Well im not an experienced gt4 owner yet, but i guess that will come with time!!

I am changing the oil every 6000 miles, which is now in my case... What else needs changed at service intervals?? Is there an oil filter that needs changed etc?

Thanks

There's a great big list of things to do in the service record book; pages 23 (x 9K miles) and 24 (x 27K miles) on mine which is a J plate GT4 C/S. Yours could be different. I'm doing Oil at 9K as per the manual, but using very good oil. I know others who do it at 3K but then possibly use cheaper oil and/or have much higher levels of tune than mine which is stock.

Re the filter, again, 9K miles - i.e. the same frequency as the engine oil. I always assumed that everyone changes the filter at the same time as the oil; otherwise isn't there a danger that you're changing the clean oil in the engine, and not the manky stuff in the filter.

What oil should you use?? Phoned Toyota and they said they would change the oil and filter for £40. When i asked what oil it was they said semi-synthetic.. I thought you had to use Fully-synthetic. i got 5w/40 in right now

That sounds quite cheap for an oil change from Mr T.

I'm going for the Silkolene Pro S 5w/40 as per Guy's advice in this thread in Sponsors' corner. Filter from Opie Oils is £5 so it's going to cost me slightly more to replace oil myself using the Silkolene, than Mr T is quoting you for the semi-synthetic, but I think it's probably worth it to get the better oil.

I suspect Guy would offer the same advice re oil for your car, but check with him.

HTH,

Tony

Thanks tony..

I phoned "mr T" and said i would prefer fully-synthetic, i.e 5w/40 but he said two of his work colleague's had gt4 and mr2 turbo and they just use 15w/30.... so i might go ahead with that or ask for an oil upgrade when im there...

As you said, it is quite a cheap price for now at least

all i ever got from my mr.t was 5/30w - toyotas own oil , not synthetic.

i dropped it every 3k .

always buy a toyota oil filter , it has a slow release valve built in the bottom. This helps keep oil uptop between switch offs.
