Hi people,

Just joined from Ireland. Only bought the car last saturday. Needs a few minor items to finish it off but not bad considering it's got only 67,000 genuine miles on it.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm still trying to figure out how to put up the pics. I have them saved on my pc. Anyone that could help me it would be much appreciated. On a different subject anyone with a convertible have a problem with the roof leaking where it joins with the windscreen. I know that like yourselves in the Uk we're having torrential rain at the moment but i seem to get rain/water coming in & dropping on the my right leg when driving the car. Any ideas as to how I fix this.

Not sure about pics - I think you need to host them on another server e.g. photobucket. If you haven't got an account, mail them to me and I'll pop them on some webspace for you.

Sorry, I probably can't help with the leak problem. I imagine someone will be able to, but there aren't that many convertibles about so could take a while for someone with a convertible to turn up. Typically though convertibles leak either because the fabric needs proofing, or else the rubber seals have aged. The former can be dealt with using kits (available e.g. from Halfords) and the latter sometimes benefit from using plastic/rubber cleaner which can restore some spring to them, though often the best solution is replacement of the seals. Not sure how you figure out how the water is getting in though.

Celica convertibles are beautiful though, so let's have those pics.

welcome to the club,

i have a 1987 2.0 celica gt convertible. I can tell you now i have been trying for two years to track down replacement rubber seals, ALL celica convertibles leak im afraid, its just a question of how bad...mines awful in drizzle but strangely enough not too bad in heavy rain...work that one out!!

I am now at the stage where i soon have to replace the drivers seat as the fabric has perished and im sitting on loose bits of foam.

Anyway, mines just clocked 150,ooo miles and still going strong, such a fannymagnet with the top down :yahoo:

I use about a litre of oil every 800 miles, keep an eye on yours as they do tend to burn a bit but as long as you change filter regularly and keep topping her up she'll be fine.

If you have any luck getting parts for the roof let me know as i will also order, i will need a new canvas next year i reckon.

Anyway, good luck and well done on buying what without question will be a collectors item in the near future :toast:

  • 2 weeks later...

Car is gone to the mechanic. Getting the following done. Full svce, new brakes all around, getting the shocks & suspension checked. sorting out problem with the roof, new electric aerial. checking timing belt, thermostat & water pump. In general, I've told him that anything that needs replacing to replace it. I have to get it NCT'ed over here before I can get the road tax. Won't have it back for a wk or so, guess I'll have to rely on the Goldwing to get around
