Hi all,

Just a few questions about my the new Gen 7 140 we own.

1. Should we run it on higher octane fuel?

2. Where can we get the stock 17" rims from? (We have the 16" rims)

Thanks

Robbo

I reckon the high octane (I presume you mean Optimax rather than the really high stuff) could pay some dividend on longer runs where you get your money back through extra fuel economy, but for running about it's probably not really worth the extra cost. Each to their own though. The engine certainly doesn't need it.

As to Rims - from Mr T I guess, if you're feeling rich. Or look out for a set on the for sale boards here, + the various Celica clubs, + eBay. They come up from time to time, though not as often as the stock wheels do. Make sure you really want them though - the stock 16" wheels are good, and there are drawbacks to the larger ones - i.e. less tyre therefore more chance of damage to wheels, more expensive tyres and more chance of tramlining.

Hello and Welcome! Hope you enjoy the motor!

There are no really noticable performance gains to be had from Super Unleaded over standard. I messed around with trying different types of Super, the best being Optimax, but that seemed a bit hit and miss at times as well. Have since gone back to standard Unleaded and am not missing Super at all....

For 17" rims (I assume you mean the 6 spoke fondamentals from a G7 140?), if you want new, Toyota, at about £130ish a wheel. Second hand, like has been said, e-bay, or another more dedicated Celica site (you don't get many G7 Celica stuff sales on this site - try Celica Club instead). They're a bit soft though, I've buckled 2 in pot holes, and I've heard of many others who've done similar, so beware if you are buying second hand. If you go new, you may want to consider going in to the after-market world, and spend a similar amount on something stronger and lighter from somewhere else.

I'de suggest buying a more robust set of wheels than the standard 6 spoke G7 wheels. They are incredibly easy to damage and also lots of problems with bubbling too. You could get a nice aftermarket set of wheels for the same sort of cash. Just throwing in my 5p there
