Will Slipping A Tooth Make It Hard To Start

I have posted a few times about the hard starting of me Avensis 1.8 GLS 1998 :censor:

I have now taken the injectors off, cleaned them, the air intake assembly, cleaned that, any sensors that i can get to, cleaned them, I even prayed once, but it still wont start in cold weather.

it has new spark plugs and leads, and the ohms on the Coils are ok

Today is sunny and warm, so it started, wont rev up til the temp guage is half way up though. :crybaby::angry:

Now I thinking of timing, as the timing is non adjustable, can a cam belt slip a tooth or 2, and will that cause non starting when it cold, but be OK when the car warmed up.

Lots of help please people, i realy at me wits end, ......OWWW and this car does not have a MAF (thought of that already)

Many Thanks and GREAT antisipation :crybaby:

So what you are saying is that your car will not rev until the vehicle is up to NORMAL temp. After that it runs OK.

If that is the case The ECU migth be being told that the car temp is NORMAL all the time. Hence the fault is probably with your coolant temp sensor. When cold the ECU provides the engine with a richer fuel mixture. It will do this in varying degreees as the engine warms until the engine reaches the correct operating temperature.

The Coolant temp sensor is possibly telling the ECU that the coolant is hot ALL of the time.

If the car runs OK after it has reach operating temp I cannot see how it will have anything to do with your cambelt.

Thanks for your reply, I will say to my shame that I had not thought of that, new one on tomorow, and I will let you know

Thanks

The cam belt is the only thing I have not touched, hence the question

The testing of the coolant sensor is covered in the Haynes Manual. No point in buying a new one if it's not faulty.

I suspect that there is an ambient air sensor fitted to these sytems. If there is, yours could be giving a high reading indicating to the ECU that it is a hot day. This will prevent the ECU giving a rich mixture for starting. This may be ok on a hot day but could account for the engine not revving until it is really warm. Also without a rich mixture it will not start in cold weather.
