Noise Under Excelerating

I have a 05 toyota avensis 2.0 d4d. The problem i am have is when i am excelerating hard around 1800 - 2300rpm its screeching/squealing. But only when the aircon is turned off. Theres no sound when it is turned on.

I would have thought that it would have been the opposite. Ie. Noise when air-con is on, as this would have been when there would have been greater resistance from the air-con pulley-wheel causing the belt to slip????

Either way I'd check the belt for slippage. Unlikely to be worn on such a new car but the tension may be wrong.

I`ve currently got the same problem with my car which is an 05 2.0 D4D. It`s been in the dealers twice for the same problem

but has not been fixed, they even tried replacing one injector that showed up as faulty during the diagnostic tests carried out.

The car is due in for it`s 30,000 service before the end of August, so I will try putting the air con on as suggested, see if this cures the fault, then invite my local dealer to rectify the fault before the warranty runs out.

My car as 28700miles on it. Its just been serviced. The noise started at about 26000 miles. I know a mechanic at toyota so i will get him to rib the technician about it. The mechanic as been in the car & as heard the sound. So they cannot say its not there. I will let you know what it is as soon as i find out. I had seen posts about it being the air conditioning pump.

Gazza1234, I have just had the car seviced at 30,000 miles, and mentioned the problem that we have both been experiencing, their reply was that the air con pump/ compressor has a clutch fitted to it, that "slips" when the air con is off, but when turned on, the clutch is engaged so eliminating the noise.

The dealer has put an air con pump on order ( under warranty ), along with some other parts to eliminate a dashboard rattle.

Once the pump has been fitted, I will let you know how I get on.

Hi gazza1234 air con compressor has been changed by the dealer and the fault has been rectified.
