my clutch on my 1990 st185 gt4 has been slipping for about 2 weeks now on sunday the Battery warning light, brake warning light and engine oil light all came on.i topped up the engine oil with 2 litres of oil,and re-charged the Battery - still the same!! when i boot the car to 5000 revs all 3 lights go off then come back on but it only does it when it its 5000 revs,is this anything connected to the clutch slipping beacause as soon as i go over 3500/4000 revs in any gear thats when the rev counter just shoots off with the car not going anywhere really.i just managed to get home yesterday when the engine cut out on me thats when i re-charged the Battery.is there anyway you can tell what the problem is i have got the car in the garage for the clutch which is costing me 480 pounds inc labour, vat and the toyota clutch and i have been told it will be a 7 and a half hours work - is this about right or am i being ripped off?

hope you can help cheers daz pudlich

2 litres is a lot of oil to put in at one go. Either it was very low indeed or else you've overfilled it, in which case you had better look at getting some back out.

As for the electrics - strange that all the lights came on together I think. I think you need to look at the ECU fault codes and then re-set the ECU. It probably refuses to go over 5000 because it's in a special mode to protect the engine, and re-setting it should overcome that, but you can't just re-set the ECU and ignore the problem it was trying to protect. If problem was just low oil, and you've fixed that then fine, but it could be something else.

Clutch price sounds OK to me I think. Not an easy job on a GT4. That said I think people have had them done for less (probably not at Mr T though).

I think I'd have wanted to be sure that there was no permanent engine noise before spending all that on the clutch alone. I hope you're lucky enough for it to be OK.

I'd have to agree about the oil, does sound like a lot. re check it with the engine cold.

I would shop around for clutch prices, mr t is never the cheapest and not always the best.

As for your electrics. get a test done on your alternator, regulator may have gone and is overcharging
