Non-working Avensis Key

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem. I have a T-reg 99 Avensis 2.0 GLS and the central locking/alarm on one of the two master keys isn't working. At first I thought it was the batteries, so I changed them. But it still doesn't work.

The key still works, in that it can start the car and it can lock the car and turn the alarm/immobiliser on. However, the unlock button doesn't work -- it won't disarm the alarm or unlock the car. I still have one properly working key, but we're a two-driver family and having only one working key is a drag.

Before I got to be fleeced by Toyota for a new key, can:

a) the key be reprogrammed so the unlock button works again; or

B) can any of the key-cutters, such as Timpsons, cut a new one.

Thanks

Michael

Welcome Strangefish32

I recall a similar thread in Avensis section a week or so ago. It's thread 6985 but for some reason my browser is refusing to give me the link to thread option right now. Go into Avensis section and look on page 2 and you'll find it.

I read that one last night, but it didn't fix the C/L alarm problem. I think that fix is for the key to switch the engine on. I might try again later.

Ah, sorry, my bad.

Hope someone else knows the fix then.

One of the instruction does something definitly about 60 seconds(lokks like trying programm this key but it do not work??).Maybe it must first erase

If any of you know, please give me a hope.

Many thanks all. I've manage to fix it using an old fix on these forums.

Here's what to do if your key refuses to remote unlock the car and disable the alarm.

1. Open car door

2. Put non-working key into ignition and turn to ON (just ON, you don't need to actually start the car). Leave car door open.

3. Wait 10 seconds

4. Press the unlock button on the key fob twice. You will hear the central locking made a little noise.

5. Take key out.

Your key is now ready to be used properly again.

Hi,

From time to time I have similar problem that the locking mechanism receive the signal but fail to open or lock while the alarm responds. After playing around with the system I came to the conclusion that it is a problem with the voltage or current coming to the locks. Try to press the bottun on your key, 2 - 3 seconds. In my case it helps. Also check your main Battery voltage. One time I found that the Battery was bad. My conclusion is that the the relay in the main computer that have to respond to the signal to activate the locks, is very sensitive to the voltage.
